ICT accounts for nearly 5 per cent of Australia's gross domestic product, but while it is irrevocably linked with every aspect of the creation of the other 95 per cent, it can wither simply for lack of human support.
It's a people business that lacks people; university enrolments for ICT courses dropped 20 per cent between 2002 and 2005 and the lack is being felt now. And are the graduates universities produce armed with the skills they - and we - need?
The skills vacancy index has risen 20 per cent over 2007, and while ICT isn't alone in feeling the skills lack, the other industries in the same boat need ICT to survive anyway.
